Powerd is a new media platform, aiming to showcase Australia’s amazing range of quality content by and for people with a disability.
Powerd is proudly disability-led. Our aim is to create a media ecosystem that amplifies the voices of people with disability, tells authentic stories and is a trusted source of news, information and entertainment. We’re also keen to create employment pathways to increase representation of people with disability in Australia's media sector.
Our online platform will host video, audio on demand, podcasts and written content. In the first instance the content will showcase content produced in the community media sector but our ultimate goal is to host content created in the broader community as well as to stimulate new content creation. We also have a slate of Powerd Original content in development. Watch this space!
Powerd will also have a dedicated journalist in the Canberra press gallery creating news bulletins and articles. Further down the line we'll have a Powerd Radio DAB+ radio channel in the capital cities and some regional areas.
If you're one of more than four million Australians who live with a disability, a member of their families or one of almost three million recognised carers, then Powerd is for you.
This platform has been years in the making. It’s drawn on the personal and professional experiences of Australians living with disability, and many others living and working with them.
We hope you’ll find content here that’s interesting, informative, varied, useful and accessible – to Australians of all ages living with a disability, and to all of us trying to make our communities more inclusive to all.
