A new study has found learning music in community settings guided by belonging, learning and empowerment promoted young people's wellbeing.

Researchers from Edith Cowan University looked into the impact of community music education programs in regional Australia.

They found the programs "can satisfy young people's relatedness, competency and autonomy psychological needs, which are essential for human flourishing."

Lead researcher Doctor Jason Goopy says "by removing entry barriers and combining music and life learning, all young can have opportunities to feel good and live well using music."
