Melbourne’s Accessible Beach pilot at Frankston, designed for people with disability, has delivered strong results, with more than 450 people using the facility over summer. The program includes beach matting, all-terrain wheelchairs, assisted water access and trained support staff, allowing people with limited mobility to reach the sand and enter the water safely.
Council says nearly a third of visitors hadn’t been to the beach in more than a decade. Cr Nathan Butler who help drive the programme – acknowledged the more than 30 local organisations that contributed over $200,000 to the initiative.
Really put my heart out to these organizations and say thank you for your contributions, and I think this has created a lot of buzz around our city, and the conversations I'm involved with and the community sentiment I'm hearing across our social some of our videos about this have gone to hundreds of 1000s of people and have 1000s of comments, and people are really, really excited about it.
