A social justice organisation says every time a new pressure is added, life becomes harder for Australians already carrying the weight of the cost of living crisis.

The Brotherhood of St Laurence's Perception of poverty in Australia report reveals nine in ten people want more action on reducing poverty.

 And most believe the system is to blame rather than individuals.

Speaking to National Radio News, Executive Director of the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, Travers McLeod says rising fuel, housing and grocery prices are taking their toll.

What we see from the report is that Australians are united in caring for that group of people who are doing it the toughest and 82% of people think that it's especially important to make sure that that group are prioritized during cost of living crisis, and that's what we need to see,
