Gay and bisexual men, as well as transgender people who have had a single sexual partner for longer than six months, can now donate blood.
New rules have come into effect today which mean all donors, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, will be asked the same questions about recent sexual activity before they donate.
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood hopes the new rules will see up to 20-thousand new donations each year.
