Many in the disability community will be sad to hear that People with Disability Australia (PWDA) President, Trinity Ford, is stepping down from the role following this morning’s announcement of her resignation via the PWDA website.
Ms Ford was appointed President of People with Disability Australia, the peak disability advocacy body, back in January, working closely with the disability community to represent them on both the national and international stage to promote and advance the rights of people with disability.
During her tenure as President of People with Disability Australia, Ms Ford served as the organisation's public face before media, members and stakeholders, lobbying for the full realisation of disability rights at Federal and NSW Parliament, the United Nations and with foreign visiting delegations to Australia, according to her LinkedIn.
Moments after the announcement, Ms Ford released a statement via the PWDA website, expressing her gratitude and admiration for PWDA’s members, staff and community.
It has been a real privilege to work for you all…building tactical relationships across the sector and politics.

Ms Ford, a training lawyer and disability advocate, explains how natural a decision it was to put her law career on the backburner when the opportunity to lead the advocacy organisation was presented to her.
“Looking at the talent …in our pool of nominees, I step down as President with relief and excitement for what is to come for PWDA,” the disability advocate says.
The People with Disability Australia Board was quick to thank the departing President for her contributions to the organisation, wishing her all the best for the future.
“The PWDA Board extends its sincere gratitude to Trinity for her tireless advocacy, leadership, and contribution to PWDA and the broader disability rights movement,” the media release read. “On behalf of our members, staff, and community, we thank Trinity for her service as President.”
As for Ms Ford, she offered a final call to action for the disability community to heed.
We’re only as strong as we are united on what matters: the fight for our collective liberation.

Ms Ford’s last day of President of People with Disability Australia will be Tuesday 21 October.
