The Australian Human Rights Commission and a coalition of advocacy groups are calling for the introduction of a national Human Rights Act.

The campaign, led by the Human Rights As We Age Network, argues stronger legal protections are needed as Australia’s population ages.

More than twenty organisations have backed the joint statement, saying a Human Rights Act would establish clearer obligations for governments and service providers while strengthening protections for older Australians.

RPP FM reports community organisations — including its local  Peninsula Community Legal Centre — have voiced support for the proposal.
