Lake Macquarie based Navy Veteran, Alex Hale, is settling back into life after returning from the Invictus Games, having competed in four events across three disciplines.

This was Alex’s first participation in the Games that were first held in 2014 and are an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured, and sick service members and veterans.

Ahead of the Games, as we reported on Powerd Media, the 41-year-old had told 2NUR in Newcastle, “I’d be lying if I said that I wouldn’t be looking for a medal” but unfortunately for him, on this occasion he returned empty handed from the Games, which took place in the wintery location of Whistler in Canada.

As part of the Australian basketball team he suffered a first-round defeat, going down 11-4 to the USA. In his category of the Nordic Biathlon, he finished 12th, and it was in the indoor rowing where Hale had most joy, as he smashed his personal best, but finished 7th and 10th in the two events.

Hale was part of a 33-person contingent of ex-service staff who were transported by the Royal Australian Air Force from these games consisting of more than 500 participants from 23 nations.

The Games are held every two years and the next edition will take place in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
