Victoria has expanded its network of residential youth mental health services, opening a new Youth Prevention and Recovery Care centre in Melbourne’s north-east.
RPP FM reports the voluntary facilities provide short-term, 24-hour care for young people aged 16 to 25, aiming to step in before crises require hospital admission.
The $141 million investment and expansion follows recommendations from the state’s Mental Health Royal Commission, with upgrades also planned for existing centres including Frankston.
The centres are expected to support hundreds of young people each year.
