A right to work: open employment success story

At Taprion Equipment, we sell and service construction equipment from 1 .7 tonne excavators through to large commercial crawler cranes into power generation plants. We've employed a number of people with different abilities, they're loyal, great for the culture and they're great workers. We approached Wallara, a local disability service provider, to understand how we could collectively work together and that's where I met Carolyn. Carolyn helped us connect with potential candidates who were suitable and would meet the needs of our business.

Wallara currently has over 150 supported employees. My role is to identify those who would like to work in open employment. We then evaluate their work readiness by looking at the skill sets that they have, their career aspirations and what supports they might need in the transition into open employment. Then we match them with a suitable employer.

I work for Rilara logistics for 10 years. I always wanted to work in open employment but I didn't know how to get there.

So the team at Rolara has been really engaged and supported both Lawrence and Tutbrine equipment. Lawrence's enthusiasm and personality has been super engaging, has won everybody over in the workplace, and he brings a great energy to everything he does.
